A Utica, N.Y., man is accused of insurance fraud and other counts for allegedly accepting $2,620 in lost wage benefits in connection with a car accident.
David L. McGee, 43, was arrested Feb. 17 following an investigation by the New York State Insurance Department’s Frauds Bureau. In addition to the insurance fraud charge, he faces individual counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument and falsifying business records.
McGee allegedly claimed he was employed to obtain no-fault wage insurance benefits, according to the bureau. He is also accused of changing the date on the doctor’s prescription allowing him to miss work so he could continue receiving benefits for an additional month.
If convicted, McGee faces a maximum sentence of up to seven years in prison.
