Un-bear-able situation for State Farm

You know that special place where you try to do something nice, but end up having to recall nearly 1 million stuffed teddy bears? State Farm is there.

The insurer announced March 17 that it is recalling the State Farm Good Neigh Bears after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada said the bears present a choking hazard as its eyes can come off. No injuries have been reported, according to the company.

[As an aside, shouldn't some federal agency investigate those googly eyes and stack of dollar bills the fine marketing folks at GEICO have been ramming down our throats for the last few months?]

Good Neigh Bear

State Farm distributed about 800,000 of the bears in the U.S. and another 27,000 in Canada. The promotional items distributed through agents and at State Farm sponsored events between 20005 and 2007. The products were manufactured in China.

State Farm is advising that anyone with a bear simply discard it so children aren’t harmed.

Perhaps all the bears can be gathered up and swapped for the $165 million in bonuses AIG execs recently received, a solution sure to be a hit on Capitol Hill.

Rather than millions in retention bonuses, the execs can dote on their adorable bear as a reminder of their good work at the insurer.

But remember, no chewing on the bears, please.
