A New Ringgold, Pa., woman faces two counts of felony workers’ compensation insurance fraud for returning to work following an injury, yet allegedly continuing to collect $13,823.18 in disability benefits.

Tammy M. Remphrey, 38, is free on $7,500 bail following her arrest March 23 for the two counts of insurance fraud and a felony count of theft by deception, according to the Pottsville Republican & Herald.

State attorney general special agent Joshua M. Tison of the Insurance Fraud Section filed charges against Remphrey stemming from incidents that occurred between Feb. 13 and Aug. 6, 2007, the report said.

Remphrey is charged with fraudulently collecting $13,823.18 in state disability benefits after injuring her wrist at work in 2006 while employed as an emergency medical technician with the Berwick Area Ambulance Association.

She began receiving weekly payments of $569.16 beginning on Jan. 18, 1007, Tison said, and a month later, a physician allowed her to return to work with no restrictions. Remphrey did notify the ambulance company when she returned to work, but despite being on regular duty, Tison alleges she collected six more months of disability, according to the report.

In March 2007, Remphrey also worked at a doughnut shop, but failed to report the employment and also collected benefits and earlier this month, the report said.

The Insurance Frauds Section said that Remphrey was interviewed in early March and said she received the disability checks at her Pottsville address, endorsed them and deposited them into her personal bank account.
