A.M. Best has complied with a request from company management of American Independent Network Insurance Co. of New York to be removed from its ratings process.
The ratings service has assigned a category NR-4 (company request) to the insurer and an “nr” to the issuer credit rating for American Independent Network, and its holding company, Penn Treaty American Corp.
Both companies entered into a voluntary rehabilitation with Pennsylvania regulators in January.
A.M. Best did affirm the financial strength rating of D (poor) and issuer credit rating of “c” for American Independent Network, with a negative outlook. The ratings service also affirmed an issuer credit rating of “d” for Penn Treaty.
The ratings affirmations reflect the “extremely weak” balance sheet, concentrated business profile and the continued weak statutory operating performance of the organization as a whole, according to A.M. Best.
