Florida agent arrested twice in two months, charged with defrauding customers
The vice president of a Jacksonville, Fla., insurance agency was arrested for the second time in two months, charged with diverting more than $50,000 in an alleged scheme to defraud her customers.
Julia Christina Hadley, an executive with People’s Choice Insurance, was first arrested in April on similar fraud charges, according to Alex Sink, chief financial officer for the Florida Department of Financial Services, which regulates insurance in the state.
Hadley’s second arrest came after investigators with the state office discovered she accepted policy-binder monies from victims of property and general liability insurance, then failed to bind the policies, keeping the proceeds for herself. The investigation began after the office received information about Hadley’s alleged activities and once criminal violations were suspected, the case was turned over to the department’s division of insurance fraud.
Administrative charges to revoke Hadley’s license have been filed.
“Hurricane season is upon us, and it would be a tragedy for someone to suffer damage to their property, only to find out they didn’t have the insurance coverage they were paying for,” Sink said in a statement.
