Financial planners among ‘red hot right now’ jobs
Yahoo! has listed on its website the “hottest jobs” and those that may experience shortages in the next few years, and financial planners are on the list.
Other jobs that the story suggested in the financial service category include actuaries and financial analysts. Computer control operator in the manufacturing sector and physician assistant, nurse practitioner, cardiac sonographer or laboratory technician in the health care sector also made the list.
For a financial planner, the Yahoo! piece, which clarifies what jobs have “high demand, possible shortages,” notes that a Bachelor’s degree in finance is preferred, as is successful completion of the Certified Financial Planners program. The average salary is $61,000, based on medians and is taken from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and PayScale.com for professionals with five years or more experience.
Considering how many baby boomers are destined to walk the corridors of Wal-Marts over the next few decades and the decimation of nearly everyone’s retirement plans from the recession, the article isn’t really stretching much. If you’re a financial planner, my guess is this listing provides a smile, if not a small sense of security, these days.
