New York independent agents group elects officers

Insurance agent Lane S. Rubin is among the slate of officers recently elected to serve on the board of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York, Inc.

Rubin was installed as chair of the board at its 127th Annual Business Meeting, held at the Garden City Hotel in Garden City, N.Y.

Rubin, managing member of Excel Coverage Group in Westbury, N.Y., is a former IIABNY regional director who chaired IIABNY’s Insurance Training Center Task Force, which oversaw the development of the ‘Essentials’ for Customer Service Representatives curriculum, a new training solution for independent insurance agencies and brokerages. He is a past president of the Nassau County Independent Insurance Agents Association.

Other officers elected and re-elected to IIABNY’s executive committee for one-year terms for 2009-2010 included David M. Gelia, executive vice president of United Insurance Agency in Amherst, N.Y., as chair-elect, and Christopher A. Brassard, executive vice-president and director of Ten Eyck Group in Albany, N.Y., secretary-treasurer.

IIABNY members also elected and re-elected regional directors to two-year terms. They include Sean L. Hickey, ARM, senior vice-president of Rose & Kiernan in East Greenbush, N.Y., to represent the state’s Capitol District and areas north; William J. Oliver, CEO of The Partners in Vestal, N.Y., to represent the central and western parts of the state; R. Todd Rockefeller, vice-president of DeRosa, Rockefeller, Sohigian & Werdal in Harrison, N.Y., to represent the New York City metro area and suburbs; and John J. Schwab, president of Niagara National in Buffalo, N.Y., to represent the central and western areas.

In addition, Richard Longueira, vice-president of Petrocelli Group, Inc. in Flushing, N.Y., was elected to a two-year term as a member representative on the organization’s nominating committee, which evaluates candidates for leadership positions and makes recommendations to the membership.

The board also elected Rick Morgan of Rick Morgan Consulting in Broomfield, Colo. to a one-year term as a director-at-large, and it re-elected Wesley Bissett, president and founder of the Bellemore Group in Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, Md. to a second one-year term as director-at-large.

The IIIABNY includes more than 1,900 agencies and their 18,000 employees as members.
