Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Kim Holland is warning state insurance producers to be wary of any phone calls seeking personal information from people posing as state regulators.

In a warning to agents and brokers issued June 23, Holland says the department has received reports of individuals calling insurance companies representing themselves as employees of her department. These fictitious employees have been requesting personal tax information by fax.
Holland said a similar scam was reported in Nevada where imposters called agents indicating that their licenses would be suspended for filing improper paperwork. The imposters would indicate that the situation could be fixed by providing personal information including date of birth, social security number and credit card and telephone numbers, according to Holland.
She reminded agents and brokers that the Oklahoma Insurance Department will only request such information in writing and urged anyone who is believed to be a victim to contact her department immediately.
