The Commonwealth of Virginia has renewed its health insurance contract with the state’s largest insurer for an additional two years, starting July 1.
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield will continue to be Virginia’s primary insurance carrier, as it has for almost 40 years. Nearly 220,000 state and local employees will be covered by Anthem health insurance benefits, including its physician and hospital network, disease management, and an online personal health record, according to Anthem.
“By partnering with Anthem, we plan to continue the great strides we’ve made to help state employees make the move toward a healthier lifestyle by taking advantage of the programs and services that will be offered,” said Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine in a statement.
