Markel Corp., the Richmond, Va.-based specialty property-casualty insurer, released its new InfoPro policy form targeted to information technology professionals.
“Our new coverage features target the type of exposures an IT professional is most likely to need to protect against, and we believe our new form will be a great fit for all types of IT pros,” said Michael Carr, Markel’s director of IT Professional & Data Security.
Carr said several aspects of the product would appeal to the IT industry, including professional liability coverage that automatically applies to broadly defined technology services, while retaining the ability to schedule additional services tailored to the insured’s business, and core coverage that includes Markel’s DataBreach and Privacy Liability, which further extends to unauthorized access to the named insured’s system, as well as to client systems arising out of the insured’s professional services.
In addition, the policy has no sub-limit on the defense of regulatory claims arising out of an “unauthorized access;” deductible credit for claims settled through mediation; a Claims Made form, rather than Claims Made & Reported form; first-dollar Supplementary Payments coverage, in addition to the aggregate for Breach Mitigation (notification, voluntary credit monitoring & public relations).
Several options include first-party coverage for data breach loss to insured, which covers insured’s own expenses to recover from an unauthorized access, and electronic media liability coverage for the insured’s software, the content of the insured’s web site and web content provided to clients as part of the insured’s professional services.
