Animal liability coverage combats stricter ordinances

As local, state and county ordinances become stricter, a property-casualty insurer has introduced a new online plan for animal liability coverage.

Xinsurance.com, a subsidiary of Evolution Insurance Brokers of Chicago, offers quotes for agents and brokers to provide solutions for their clients who own pets. The need for animal liability coverage is increasing as stricter ordinances are passed in jurisdictions, the company said.

Often, Xinsurance.com said, if an incident occurs, some authorities require owners to produce a certificate of insurance before releasing an animal and landlords and home associations require their renters or homeowners to have liability policies in place as a stipulation of tenancy.

“We understand the difficult risks that individuals, volunteers, breed rescue groups and clubs face in obtaining liability insurance coverage, Rick Lindsey, president and CEO of Evolution Insurance Brokers, said in a statement.

Coverage can be obtained for specially trained dogs such as guard dogs, security dogs, hunting and performing dogs. All breeds, including pit bulls, Rottweilers and Akitas will be considered for coverage, the company said.
