Aetna is now offering employers a personalized online tool to help them make decisions about their health benefits.

Partnering with The Jellyvision Lab, an Illinois-based interactive design company, Aetna’s Personal Benefits Advisor offers users three modules: one helping employers choose the dental and medical plans that best fit their needs; a life and disability module to determine how much insurance they need; and a third, educating employees about benefits available to them, ranging from Employee Assistance Program services to online personal health records.

Each module features an on-screen host that asks users various questions, including family status, dependents, and health care needs, then gathers information based on the responses

Aetna said it piloted the Personal Benefits Advisor with several groups of customers, including federal employees, over the last nine months. When surveyed about whether the experience was helpful, 96% gave it a 4 or 5 on a 5-point scale, with 77% rating the product a 5.

“In the same way that many of us now depend on a global positioning device to help find a destination, Personal Benefits Advisor helps Aetna members navigate the challenges associated with choosing a benefits plan,” said Karen Weinseiss, Aetna’s head of innovation and product management, in a statement. “We understand that for many employees, making decisions about health insurance benefits can be quite confusing. This new tool simplifies the process. It focuses only on the needs of the person sitting in front of the screen.”
