Last year, with the fourth pick in my fantasy football league, I proudly selected Tom Brady, quarterback for my beloved New England Patriots.

As most will remember – I know I will – Brady was sacked with a little over 7 minutes left in the first quarter of the first regular season game, suffering a season-ending knee injury and essentially ruining my season and my shot at a modest cash prize on top of bragging rights for an entire year.

Luckily, for sports aficionados like me who choose to coach from home and not the sidelines, FantasySportsInsurance.com is making sure we’re covered just like the pros.

The Huntington, N.Y.-based company, developed by Intermarket Insurance Agency Inc., is offering insurance policies enabling fantasy sports owners to protect themselves from “season changing” injury losses and the ability to re-coup the cost of your fantasy league investment, “lessening the disappointment and aggravation of losing your top fantasy player(s),” according to the company’s website.

(For added effect, the site features a downed Brady clutching the very knee that kept him sidelined.)

“NFL, MLB, NHL and MBA team owners purchase disability coverage on their KEY PLAYERS. Why shouldn’t you? FSI will not only increase your competitiveness, but also gives you piece of mind knowing that your investment of both TIME and MONEY in building your team is secure. FSI will increase the level of involvement and interest in your fantasy league,” the site brags.

So curiosity led me to see what it would cost – emotionally and financially – to avoid another Brady Blunder this season.

Choosing “option one” – where a key player misses 10 out of the first 15 regular season games in the NFL – and entering the league registration fee and other “expenses” (i.e., magazines helping me draft players, etc.), it would cost me a modest $8.76 to cover $60 in expenses – this is outside of the sleepless nights and relying on my backup to carry the load for the season.

Now covering my entire nine-player team (and another five bench players) could add up to equal what I spend to play fantasy football, but I can brag to my other league-mates that I am indeed covered from whatever fate brings this season.

So as I get ready for our league draft, I feel a little more free to take a chance on an oft-injured receiver or running back with a tricky knee as I know that FantasySportsInsurance.com will have my back.

Now I wonder if Brady’s coverage is higher because of a “pre-existing condition”…….
