Liberty Mutual makes the grade with teacher-specific auto policy

Liberty Mutual unveiled a new customized auto insurance policy for full-time teachers and school administrators, offering protection for many who store school items in their vehicles.

The insurer noted that many teachers buy school supplies and equipment with their own money, citing a 2007-2008 study that showed the average out-of-pocket expense per educator is $400.

The customized policy has no-cost features, including a comprehensive deductible waiver if the car is vandalized while parked at the school or school-sponsored function, and personal property coverage of up to $2,500, with a $50 deductible, for education materials or school-owned property stolen from a vehicle.

“Recognizing the responsibility and personal investment that our teachers make in their students, we are addressing their unique insurance needs without further stretching their tight budgets,” said Greg Gordon, Liberty Mutual senior vice president for consumer marketing, said in a statement  “Teachers cars often double as their office, so protecting their work-related contents in their car can be just as important as protecting the car itself.”

The product is available in all states except Alaska, Florida, Georgia, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.
