According to an ABC News article, Democrats are hoping that the death of Sen. Edward Kennedy will ignite support for health care reform being pushed by Congress and President Obama, and which has met with widespread and vocal opposition from ordinary Americans at town hall meetings.

And if you can believe this, a writer at The Nation is actually calling for the president to make his eulogy for Kennedy into a political “call to action” in favor of the proposed health care reform legislation.

How sad.

At this point it has already come out that Sen. Kennedy had dedicated the last few years perhaps even more to “reforming health care.” While it is admirable that his dedication was most likely from a good place, his own state is sadly failing with their “health reform.”
There are certainly no obvious answers yet, but I know that before there is any talk of a new program, for the sake of the nation it is critical to get control of these costs. I am convinced that the cost escalation is not the fault of the insurance companies even with their “administrative costs” because they operate on margins and they can only increase profits by increasing membership. It does not suit their long term goals to have these sky rocketing premiums. On the other hand the medical profession is not so clear cut and I would certainly look there first for answers as two hospitals will charge different rates for the same test by sometimes 100% even when they are in a 10 mile radius. Cost control first and financial discipline. Then we can discuss reform if it is still necessary.
