Progressive Insurance plans to help its insurance agents create an online presence to attract more consumers by partnering with a national website developer.

computer-mouseThe insurer, who sells through agents and directly to consumers, cites a recent study by comScore, a business intelligence company, which showed 73% of consumers look online for car insurance and 67% eventually buy from an agent. However, Progressive found that fewer than half of its insurance agents have websites.

Progressive’s partner, Web.com, has created hundreds of thousands of websites for businesses. For a discounted price, it will allow Progressive agents to create websites designed to appear in all major search engine listings, will offer consultation time each month with Web.com professionals and include a scorecard to measure the leads and real-time results of each website in the form of calls, e-mails and clicks, according to the company.

“We’re committed to helping our agents grow their businesses and a key part of that is giving them the tools they need to communicate with and serve their customers in today’s market,” said Matt Marko, marketing process manager for Progressive’s agency business, in a statement. “Agents need to be engaged in developing and maintaining their sites.”
