York, Pa.-based Shoemaker & Besser Associates is offering a new dwelling product in Maryland.

The regional managing general agency and wholesaler was recently appointed as a managing general agent for American Reliable Insurance Co., a member of Assurant Specialty Property.

Through that appointment, Shoemaker & Besser Associates has coverage available now in Maryland for coastal and inland waterway business, including wind, as well as properties that are vacant, under rehabilitation, tenant occupied, owner occupied or seasonal, and rowhomes, Shoemaker & Besser Associates said in a statement.

“We’re excited about being able to meet an additional need for our agents that write in the state of Maryland,” Allan Boyd, vice president and agency manager at Shoemaker & Besser Associates, said in a statement. “In speaking with our agents, they’ve repeatedly said that they need an admitted coastal market that doesn’t exclude wind, as well as an admitted market for vacant, rehab, and tenant occupied policies in the urban areas of Maryland.”

Boyd said the company is seeking agents in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, New York and West Virginia to write the Maryland dwelling program.

Coverage forms available are a DP-1, DP-2, and DP-3, depending upon the risk characteristics.  Condos may be written on a DP-2, Property Limits are available up to $500,000, depending upon risk characteristics and program.  For rental properties, policies can accommodate up to 30 properties for owners with multiple tenant occupied dwellings, and deductibles up to $5,000 are available, according to Boyd.
