The American College in Bryn Mawr, Pa., is hoping to take some of the confusion out of which designation is the best fit for financial planners through a new website offering what it calls “unbiased and interactive” means to evaluate options.

keyboardnewThe new site, FinancialPlanningCertificationCenter.com, allows planners and clients the opportunity to compare the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designations, the organization said.

As both the owner of the ChFC program and the nation’s largest provider of CFP education, American College said it is in “a unique position” to offer informed insight into the similarities and differences between these two certifications.

The site provides information on the differences in content and delivery methods associated with the two credentials and also provides information about the requirements for each certification, including study options for financial planners enrolled in the programs.

“No one certification has a monopoly on quality,” Larry Barton, president and CEO of The American College, said in a statement. “We know that clients and the public are confused about programs, rigor and course work, and the center is an excellent way to help financial planners and investors understand the important differences between these two flagship programs.”

Barton added that “now more than ever,” Americans need help in creating and preserving wealth for long-term financial security and financial planners are a key element.

“Financial planners have an enormous obligation to provide their clients with the best advice and education is a critical part of this process,” he said.

The American College said it is the nation’s largest non-profit educational institution devoted to financial services.
