New York woman accused of stealing $39,000 in state benefits
A Freeport, N.Y., woman was arrested after investigators discovered she improperly collected $39,000 in workers’ compensation benefits.
Monica Martinez, 37, is accused of working at dental offices in Long Beach and Roslyn, N.Y., while claiming neck and back injuries suffered at a previous job prevented her from working, according to the New York State Insurance Department.
Martinez was charged with violating New York’s workers’ compensation law and could face up to four years in prison if convicted.
The arrest came following an investigation by the department’s frauds bureau, the New York State Insurance Fund and the office of the Inspector General of the Workers’ Compensation Board.
