While their actions may ultimately prove mostly symbolic, lawmakers in more than a dozen states are preparing legislation that could be a roadblock to the goal of president and many in Congress who want to require all Americans to purchase health insurance.

According to a New York Times article, the mostly Republican state legislators know that while it is an uphill battle, some hope that legislation might force such a federal mandate into court, because the federal government is not permitted to make laws that trump state laws.

But federal lawmakers would likely contend that their interests supersede state interests.

What about the interests of individuals? According to many in Washington, the views of President Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and their radical left-wing peers apparently even trump individual rights.
