La. life agent accused of misappropriation, forgery and unlicensed work

A Lake Charles, La., insurance agent must stop his work immediately and pay a $1,000 fine after numerous allegations by the state’s insurance department.

Steven Charles Rossiter, 59, was served by investigators with the Louisiana Department of Insurance Fraud Section with an order to cease and desist from selling insurance and a $1,000 fine notice.

Investigators claim Rossiter completed and submitted fraudulent paperwork to an insurance company requesting that $9,000 be withdrawn from a client’s life insurance policy. Once issued the check, he is accused of forging the client’s name and depositing it into his own account.

Rossiter was also conducting the business without a valid license, the department said. Records indicate that he was issued life, accident and health licenses in November 1996 and a variable contracts license in May 1997, all of which lapsed in April 2008.
