Idaho woman gets judge’s treat after Halloween insurance trick fails
An Idaho judge suspended a prison term and $1,000 fine against a local woman who lied about a burglary at her home.
Jennifer A. Fisher, 36, of Wilder, Idaho, was sentenced to three to seven years in prison and the fine, but Judge Juneal Kerrick suspended both actions against her, according to the Idaho Press-Tribune.
Fisher pleaded guilty last year to single counts of insurance fraud and grand theft, according to the report.
On Halloween night 2006, Fisher told local police her home was burglarized and she was missing items, including two televisions, a computer, $600 in cash and a comic book collection. The next day, she contacted State Farm, her insurer, claiming additional items – including a variety of jewelry – had been stolen in the burglary.
The Idaho Department of Insurance discovered after talking to several witnesses that Fisher either sold, pawned or still possessed many of the items she claimed were stolen from her home.
