The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New Jersey recently recognized Don Bryan with its Henry A. Franz Insurance Person of the Year Award.

Bryan retired in June from the New Jersey Department of Banking & Insurance following a 27-year career, which included roles as director of insurance and acting commissioner.

He joined DOBI in 1982 as a drafter of regulations following a general law practice career in Mount Holly, N.J., and served under seven governors and 10 commissioners. The group recognized Bryan as the “go to” person for many in the industry and for his work behind the scenes to spur auto insurance reforms six years ago.

The annual award is presented by the IIABNJ and the Independent Insurance Agents of Passaic County (IIAPC) in memory of Franz, a past president of both organizations. The recognition symbolizes an individual who has made a valuable contribution to the health and advancement of the insurance industry and the American agency system.

Recipients may include representatives from insurance companies, industry associations, insurance agencies, and government and news media, government and news media.
