Pennsylvania-based insurance education group preparing to buy CEU.com

The American Institute for CPCU said it has reached a tentative agreement to buy CEU. com, an online insurance course provider.

The deal between the Malvern, Pa.-based education organization is for all of CE University’s outstanding stock and online brand. After the deal is completed, CEU. com will continue to offer insurance continuing education courses from its Old Saybrook, Conn., office.

The organizations say the proposed acquisition will leverage CE University’s expertise in online CE with the Institutes’ technical insurance content and assessment capabilities.

“With this acquisition, the Institutes will enhance its position as the industry’s knowledge leader and offer a full range of educational solutions,” Peter L. Miller, president and CEO of the Institutes, said in a statement. “We will be able to provide the risk management and insurance industry with an unparalleled array of CE solutions, which will complement the Institutes’ existing online courses, recognized designation programs and custom assessment and educational applications.”

Terms of the tentative agreement were not disclosed, nor was an indication of when the deal might be finalized.
