Markel Corp. announced that its president and chief operating officer, Paul W. Springman, has taken a leave of absence.

The Richmond, Va.-based specialty insurer said Springman cited personal reasons for his leave.

His responsibilities will be assumed by other members of the company’s senior management team during his absence, according to company officials.
