North Carolina agent faces new indictments alleging embezzlement
A North Carolina agent already facing charges of stealing funds from an elderly client has been indicted on 12 charges of embezzlement and two counts of exploiting disabled or elder trust.
Charles Mark Hall, 50, the owner of Market Street Advisors in Smithfield, N.C., could also face additional charges, according to the North Carolina Department of Insurance. Losses resulting from the alleged illegal activity are estimated at $2.6 million.
Hall remains in custody at the Johnston County Jail, after his arrest in September for allegedly embezzling more than $168,000 from an elderly client’s annuities.
In that case, the department accused Hall of converted into his own use three separate annuities belonging to the 90-year-old victim and convinced her to sign surrender forms for the annuities, taking the money without her knowledge, consent or endorsement.
Following his arrest, Hall surrendered his agent license to North Carolina regulators.
