A woman who collected more than $5,000 in premiums from two San Fernando Valley, Calif., used car dealerships was arrested after it was learned she had no license to sell insurance.

Leandra Delgadillo, 32, of Canyon Country, Calif., faces felony charges of fraud and grand theft and could spend as much as two years in prison, according to the California Department of Insurance.

Investigators with the department say that from March 2007 through May 2008, Delgadillo, who is not licensed a insurance agent or broker, collected $5,120 from the dealerships, allegedly providing them and their customers with fake certificates of auto insurance.

One of the victims attempted to confirm coverage with the insurance agent whose name appeared on the certificate, but that agent informed him there was no policy. Investigators interviewed the auto dealership where the victims’ money was received and learned Delgadillo’s identity.
