House passes estate tax extension, ‘pay as you go’ rules proposed

It’s about time that Congress has started to take action on the “death tax”, although the bill passed by the House will likely not be one that is embraced by the Senate.
Regardless, the estate tax was set to sunset next year, and return to 2001 levels in 2011. So negotiations had to begin, and the details can be worked out as the bill(s) move along. The action by the House is the first step in assuring that business owners and farmers don’t find their heirs liable for millions of dollars when they die.
