Comparing reform bill to victory is like comparing Scrooge to Santa

The Baltimore Sun ran a headline on the front page of its print edition today that begs the question: how do they define victory?
The headline was a banner across two related stories that outlined Senate Democrats voting in the wee h0urs of the morning to clear hurdles that will allow a late night Christmas Eve vote on its version of health care reform. It read, “Obama inches closer to victory.”
Comparing passage of this bill to victory would be the same as declaring, in a headline a decade or two ago, “Bernie Madoff earns millions with investment success.”
Ludicrous is the best way to describe either one. Madoff ripped off his clients to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars, he sent many of them into financial ruin and ended up being the single-largest white collar criminal in U.S. history.
Similarly, the bills proposed by the House and the Senate, under the direction of President Obama, promise to enlarge our federal government to an uncontrollable size (as if it weren’t already), raise taxes on every American across the board, deny many the right to choose the type and quality of their health care and health care coverage, further burden an already struggling and near-bankrupt Medicare program, increase the federal deficit to epic proportions, and place an economic burden on our children and grandchildren that will alter their standard of living from what we have known for generations.
At least in Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” Scrooge had a change of heart and saw the error of his ways.

Over the past months I have had an opportunity to read most of your articles and I will stand with you any day against the forces of big government and in my opinion nothing less than present day fascism. First the financial sector, then the auto industry and now healthcare in America.
What sector of the economy is next? When will they come for the Tony Ondruseks of our country to silence them?
What they cannot achieve through “legislation” they will simply try and achieve through government decrees from “czars” and out of control agencies (i.e. EPA). What we’re witnessing today is the literal destruction of the free market and American exceptionalism.
It’s ironic how prophetic Ayn Rand actually was some fifty years ago with the publication of Atlas Shrugged. I choose to stand with the John Galts of the world with every drop of blood in my body!
