Following the acquisition of one of the Southwest’s largest independent agencies, Marsh & McLennan is expanding its national presence with one of the Northeast’s biggest firms.

Marsh & McLennan Agency, a subsidiary of insurance broker Marsh Inc., announced it has acquired The NIA Group LLC and its New York City office, Kornreich-NIA

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The NIA Group, with annual revenue of $62 million and offices in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Florida, is one of the larges independent agencies in the Northeast and the 34th largest agency in the U.S., according to Marsh. Headquartered in Paramus, N.J., the company offers property-casualty insurance, employee benefits, personal insurance, life insurance, and estate planning.

In addition to its book of business, Marsh acquires the services of about 400 NIA Group employees.

The transaction, Marsh said in a statement, is part of a series of strategic acquisitions as its agency builds “a national business to serve the needs of mid-sized companies across the country.”

David Eslick, chairman and chief executive officer of Marsh & McLennan Agency, said the NIA acquisition gives his firm “a strong operation” in the New York metropolitan area and Florida.

“We’re delighted to welcome the leadership team and the employees of The NIA Group and Kornreich-NIA to our firm,” Eslick said in a statement. “They have a well-earned and longstanding reputation for professionalism and service excellence, which we view as essential elements for the national organization we are building at Marsh & McLennan Agency.”

The NIA acquisition comes just over a month after Marsh & McLennan acquired Insurance Alliance, one of the largest independent insurance agencies in Texas. Insurance Alliance has an annual revenue of $15 million and serves more than 1,500 commercial clients in Texas and throughout the Southwest.
