NAHU chief summarizes health reform effect on agents, asks for help
Janet Trautwein, CEO of the National Association of Health Underwriters, released a short video this morning that outlined some of the effects that the Senate’s proposed health care reform legislation will have on agents and brokers. (see the video below)
While the Senate bill (which will likely be passed on Christmas Eve) has to still be married to the House bill, Trautwein believes that there might still be a role for some health insurance agents and brokers, but they will find themselves possibly making significantly less money due to minimum loss ratio provisions.
Trautwein and NAHU sent a formal letter to Senate leadership outling their concerns and how the bill will negatively affect the industry.
In addition, NAHU has made available to everyone (agents, consumers, anyone who cares about the future of health care) a letter that they can send to their senators. It is an automatic process; simply put in your name and your address and the system does the rest. It takes less than one minute.
While Trautwein and NAHU have worked hard to make this effort by Congress and President Obama as least damaging as possible to the industry, the actions of individuals is still urgently needed.
Whether or not you are a member of NAHU, please take the time to sign and send the letter to preserve our industry.
