New Jersey dentist pleads guilty to fraudulently billing Medicaid
A fourth employee of the New Jersey Mobile Dentist program pleaded guilty to cheating Medicaid through a false billing scheme that netted the business more than $1.3 million.
Anna Padva-German, 47, of Secaucus, N.J., pleaded guilty to third-degree Medicaid fraud before a Superior Court judge in Monmouth County, according to New Jersey Attorney General Anne Milgram. She is scheduled for sentencing on June 25, 2010, but as part of her plea, must pay restitution and a civil penalty totaling $138,731.
Padva-German, a licensed dentist employed by New Jersey Mobile Dentist of Colts Neck, N.J., was charged in connection with an ongoing investigation into the business by the Office of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. The operation contracts with individual dentists to provide “mobile” dental care in various nursing homes and assisted living facilities throughout the state.
Padva-German admitted in court that between Jan. 1, 2003 and March 6, she willfully received medical assistance payments as a Medicaid provider in an amount greater than that to which she was entitled. Milgram’s office said the dentist alone cheated Medicaid out of out of more than $70,000.
Her plea comes after three fellow colleagues also admitted to Medicaid fraud in court.
In September, Marc Wertheim, 45, of Moonachie, N.J., pleaded guilty to third-degree Medicaid fraud for his role in defrauding the program out of nearly $750,000 through fraudulent billing.
In July, Christopher Lillo, 41, of Toms River, N.J., and Joshua Prensky, 33, of Fair Lawn, N.J., also pleaded guilty to charges linking them to Medicaid fraud. Medicaid allegedly paid the pair more than $300,000 as a result of fraudulent billing related to Lillo and $100,000 as a result of Prensky’s similar actions, according to Milgram’s office.
