Florida insurance regulators have ordered an insurance company and two of its affiliates to stop the unauthorized marketing and selling of health insurance products in the state through an unlicensed captive insurance company.
American Assurance Underwriters Group and its affiliates, Worldwide Expatriate Administrators LLC and Worldwide Expatriate Advisors LLC, have been under investigation since “earlier this year,” according to Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty.
Regulators accuse the companies of marketing, selling and continuing to market and sell health insurance products in Florida underwritten by the captive insurance company, AAUG Insurance Co. Ltd., without a license.
Roy Alvarado, an AAUG vice president, declined comment, saying the company has not received any order from Florida regulators.
AAUG, based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is licensed as a captive in the British Virgin Islands and does not hold a certificate of authority to operate in Florida, McCarty’s office said.
The companies, who have 21 days to challenge the administrative action, were put under investigation after Florida regulators began receiving consumer inquiries, McCarty said in a statement.
