Obama ‘Cadillac’ health tax would make Jimmy Hoffa spin in his grave
Whether buried in the cement at the old Yankee Stadium, or under a runway at O’Hare Airport in Chicago, former union boss Jimmy Hoffa is likely having a fit at the antics proposed by the Obama Administration in its rush to enact health care reform so the president can announce it during his State of the Union speech.
Unions have been fiercely loyal to the Democrat party for decades, but this past election was especially interesting as Barack Obama fought Hillary Clinton and John McCain for union backing in his bid to become president.
President Obama promised the unions there would be no taxes on their health benefits.
But now, as reported by the New York Times, unions are upset that the president is endorsing taxes on high-premium health plans that would have a dramatic effect on union members.
President Obama meets with AFL-CIO and Teamsters officials this week to try to bribe, er, persuade them that his plan is innocent and best for them. No doubt there will be new promises made, and another group will be found to foot the bill for his expansive agenda.
