A joint investigation by the fraud division of the Maryland Insurance Administration, Maryland State Police and the state attorney general’s office has led to grand jury indictments against a Poolesville, Md. couple.

Daniel Dwight Manoff, 46, and his estranged wife, Theresa Elizabeth Thorne, 30, were indicted by grand juries in circuit court for Charles and St. Mary’s counties on several counts of felony theft and conspiracy, according to the Maryland Attorney General’s Office.

The former husband and wife are accused of stealing money from two Charles County residents and a St. Mary’s County resident from 2005 and 2008. An investigation found that Manoff offered to invest funds for the three victims, but failed to invest those funds and used them for personal expenses, including aid to Thorne to help her pay off some personal bills.

Each count of felony theft and conspiracy is punishable by a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.

A trial in Charles County is scheduled for April 12, but a trial date in St. Mary’s County has yet to be announced.
