Robert Connor has joined New Day Underwriting Managers LLC as assistant vice president of the Bordentown, N.J.-based firm.

New Day Underwriting provides technical insurance, risk management and underwriting services to assist insurance agents and their clients locate environmental and construction related professional liability insurance coverage.

Connor will focus on the firm’s market in Florida and the surrounding region.

“With nearly 15 years of underwriting experience focusing on professional liability for architects and engineers, Bob’s significant expertise in construction-related professional liability strengthens our team even more,” said Jefferey S. Lejfer, New Day Underwriting’s president and chief executive officer. “Bob will work closely with our agents and broker partners, all of whom will benefit from his extensive underwriting experience for design firms and his legal background with environmental issues.”

In other company news, Jeff Silvka, an executive vice president, presented a speech on common problems that can result in gaps in contractors general liability and unbrella coverages at the 29th Institutional Risk Management Institute Construction Risk Conference in Washington, D.C.

*John F. Chiaia was appointed by Fairfield, N.J.-based Rand, Feuer & Klein as a producer, responsible for growing the company’s commercial insurance business.

*Matthew Gard has joined the Montvale, N.J., branch office of Jimcor Agencies as a brokerage specialist.

* John O’Brien, Lawrence DePalma, Gregg Barrett, Gene Ullmann, Rena Meade and Maria Sporn, of Smith Gatta Gelock Surety Solutions Insurance Agency in Farmingdale, N.J., were designated construction risk insurance specialists by the International Risk Management Institute.
