CIGNA HealthCare promoted Julia Huggins, senior vice president of its mid-Atlantic sales and customer service team, to president of its mid-Atlantic market.

Huggins will work out of the CIGNA HealthCare office in Columbia, Md., serving a territory that includes Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

A resident of Westminster, Md., Huggins joined CIGNA in 1999 as assistant vice president for sales effectiveness in the company’s Bloomfield, Conn., office before becoming senior vice president in 2004. She previously worked for 14 years at Aetna, holding positions involving group underwriting, national accounts, pension and financial services and financial management.

“Julia is a proven leader and has worked successfully in the Mid-Atlantic market for many years to help our clients and customers improve their health and productivity,” said Tom Martel, regional vice president of CIGNA HealthCare’s North East Region, in a statement. “Her vast experience and diverse background brings a valuable outlook on how we work with our customers, helping us to further grow our business and look for new ways to enhance the service we provide to employers in this area.”
