Adding girlfriend to health insurance leads to charges for N.Y. man
A Rochester, N.Y., man was recently arrested for listing his live-in girlfriend as his wife so she could obtain health insurance benefits.
Robert M. Moore, 62, was arrested following an investigation by the New York State Insurance Department’s Frauds Bureau.
Investigators say Moore listed the woman as his spouse on the Excellus Health Plan insurance received through his insurer. The girlfriend, who was not arrested, used the coverage to pay for medical, dental and prescription drug benefits, totaling $13,700, that she was not entitled to, officials said.
Moore faces charges of third-degree insurance fraud and third-degree larceny, which could net him up to seven years in prison if convicted. He will appear for a hearing in Monroe County Court at a later date to answer the charges.
