Trenton councilman returns campaign contribution from insurance firm
One of the politicians at the center of a “pay-to-play” law violation in Trenton has returned the $460 campaign contribution by a local insurance carrier that resulted in the firm losing a long-time city contract.
Councilman at large Manny Segura returned the contribution, as it was a violation of Trenton law, according to The Trentonian.
That contribution, as well as another to a local politician, was made by the Borden Perlman Insurance. The Lawrenceville, N.J.-based firm lost a $194,000 contract with the city for violating a 2006 ordinance banning any professional business entity holding a contract with the city or in pursuance of a contract with the city from making any contribution to any candidate or political action committee.
Borden Perlman has denied any wrongdoing in the matter and Segura told The Trentonian that the matter is “over and one with.”
In addition to Segura, West Ward council candidate Zachary Chester received a $100 contribution from Borden Perlman, according to the report.
