A Henryville, Ind., funeral home operator, already facing nine felony counts of insurance fraud, was charged with six additional counts in a different county.

Richard D. Pyke, 42, the director of R.D. Pyke Funeral Services, is accused in Clark County of cashing in “pre-need” burial insurance plans without notifying the holders of those policies.

In addition to those nine felony charges filed last month, Pyke is now charged with six additional counts in Floyd County, according to The Jeffersonville Evening News & The New Albany Tribune.

Pyke’s attorney told the newspapers that it appears the allegations in both counties are similar and based on the same legal theory. A winter storm prevented the newspapers from accessing charging documents for the case.

The Indiana State Police said that the charges in Floyd County are new, but related to those in Clark County, but did not comment on the number of new victims or if they cam forward following last months charges, the report said.

Clark County prosecutors allege that Pyke received more than $65,000, starting in March 2005, for submitting falsified documents indicating that the policyholders of “pre-need” burial insurance he sold had died, when eight of the nine involved were still alive and thought their policy was still in place.

Pyke is scheduled to appear in court June 7 in Floyd County and on July 6 in Clark County, according to the report.
