Florida insurance agency employee accused of stealing premium payments
A customer service representative for a Davenport, Fla., independent agency was arrested after an investigation found that he had stolen insurance premium payments.
Alan Pearce, 42, of Lakeland, Fla., faces charges of altering a bank bill or check, and two counts of grand theft, according to the Lakeland Ledger.
Citing a sheriff’s report, Pearce allegedly stole payments from two customers on two different occasions, including accepting a customer’s cash payment of $702 and pocketing the money in February 2009, the report said.
In the second incident, reported in September 2009, a customer contacted Pearce’s employer, 4 Corners Insurance, when his account was cancelled. The policyholder showed the agency’s owner, Sharon Palanti, a copy of his $1,572 check and policy papers signed by Pearce indicating that the account was paid, according to the Ledger.
The website for 4 Corners Insurance lists Pearce as a customer service representative in the Davenport office. The agency, which also has a Palm City, Fla., office, offers health, life and property-casualty policies to Florida customers.
