House fire results in insurance fraud, arson charges for Pa. men
Two central Pennsylvania men face charges, including insurance fraud and arson, following a fire nearly five years ago in Lycoming County.
Anthony Dunn Jr., 36, of Milesburg, Pa., and Harry Braim, 45, of Jersey Shore, Pa., were charged after a grand jury reviewed evidence and testimony against the pair, according to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.
According to officials, in the summer of 2005, Braim discussed with Dunn the possibility of burning his residence and business in exchange for a piece of the insurance proceeds. Braim allegedly instructed Dunn on how to commit the arson, supplying him with plastic gas cans to set the blaze, the attorney general’s office said.
Prior to committing the arson, officials say Dunn obtained a “junk van,” which could later be disposed of and not traced, along with gasoline, a crowbar and other tools to force his entry into Braim’s Jersey Shore home.
Following a fire in which Braim’s residence, garage and shed burnt to the ground on Aug. 24, 2005, Tuscarora Mutual Wayne Insurance Co. paid out more than $212,000 to Braim, who was the sole beneficiary of the policy.
Braim is charged with six counts of arson, two counts of insurance fraud and one count of criminal conspiracy.
Dunn, charged with three counts of arson and one count of criminal conspiracy, was arrested and is scheduled for a court hearing March 3.
