New York Career News: Leonard, Findley get ACORD posts, other notables

John Leonard, president and chief executive for The MEMIC Group, was recently re-elected by the ACORD board of directors as its 2010 chair and David Findley was also re-elected as the board’s vice-chair.

ACORD, which stands for Association for Cooperative Operations Research and Development, is a global, nonprofit standards development organization serving the insurance industry and related financial services industries, located in Pearl River, N.Y.

Leonard has been with MEMIC, a provider of workers’ compensation insurance for employers in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York, since 1993. He also serves on several other boards, including the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC).

Findley served as chief operations officer for property-casualty insurance operations at Travelers, working in the insurer’s Connecticut and New York City offices. He also is a board member of the Agents Council for Technology of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (IIABA).

In other news:

*Marjorie D. Raines joined the board of directors of New York-based specialty insurance holding company The Navigators Group.

*Jacob Sokol was appointed marketing manager for the insurance operations of New York-based C.V. Starr & Co.

*Peter Ganley joined The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Co.’s Long Island, N.Y.-based Palmieri-Ganley Agency as managing partner and David Hull was promoted to managing director of the firm.

* Don Salama, formerly head of New York Life Retirement Plan Services, was promoted to chief strategy officer for the insurer. Also, Drew Lawton has joined New York Life as a senior managing director and leader of retirement plan services as chief executive officer.

*Margaret J. Arnold was promoted to assistant vice president-controller and Derek Bucciferro to senior underwriter of Buffalo, N.Y.-based insurance wholesaler Russell Bond & Co.

*David Bachrach joined Lockton in the insurance broker’s Northeast operations in New York City. Bachrach will serve as senior vice president, charged with expanding the firm’s reach in the employer-sponsored group benefits market.
