Two Philadelphia Insurance Co. executives, Christopher J. Maguire and Sean S. Sweeney, were named co-presidents of Philadelphia Insurance Cos.

Maguire, who joined the Bala Cynwyd, Pa.-based commercial lines and professional liability lines insurer in 1987, has been chief operating officer, a title he will retain.

In that capacity, he was focused on building a franchise and creating alignment within teams, according to a company statement. He has managed the operations and production within the underwriting department. He will now be responsible for the operational oversight of all departments with a continued focus on building a leadership framework focused on strategic alignment.

Sweeney, who joined the company in 1979, is responsible for the formation and success of its marketing department, having most recently served as executive vice president and chief marketing officer.

In that post, his focus has been on developing new and creative ways to grow the business organically, by acquisition and through product development, the company said.

Sweeney will retain the chief marketing officer title in the new position, which will involve maintaining maintain oversight of the sales and marketing organization and Valley Forge Insurance Brokerage. He will also assist with training and development and lead the Philadelphia Insurance Co. response to the parent company, Tokio Marine Group, initiative to promote resource sharing among its subsidiaries.
