Overall U.S. life insurance application activity ended its six-month roll, showing a slight decline in February, according to a monthly analysis.
U.S. individually underwritten life insurance applications declined 0.2% among all ages in February, compared to the same month in 2009, according to the MIB Life Index.
However, February’s number was up 9.3% over January, reflecting a typical seasonal trend, according to the index.
The 60-plus market, the strongest among all markets, continued to lead the way, with an 11.2% jump over February 2009. The 60-plus age group has shown increases in 12 of the last 13 months, the index showed.
As has been the case in 10 of the last 12 months, applications among people 45 to 59 saw a year-over-year increase of 1.2%.
Sales to people age 0 to 44 continued to sag, falling 3.5% from February 2009.
