Pa. pair accused of embezzlement from employees’ retirement fund
A Scranton, Pa., grand jury has indicted the principals of a landscape architectural and civil engineering firm for allegedly embezzling money from the retirement accounts of their employees.
Craig Bachik, 49, of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Renee Regal, 43, of Camp Hill, Pa., were each charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud, embezzlement from an employee benefits plan and mail fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
The pair are principals of Lemoyne, Pa.-based Kairos Design Group, a firm specializing in commercial, institutional, municipal, residential and urban design, according to its website.
The indictment alleges that beginning in July 2005, Bachik and Regal failed to remit employee contributions to their employee’s Simple IRA accounts, and instead used the contributions for other purposes, according to officials.
Both Bachik and Regal face up to 25 years in prison and fines of up to $500,000, if convicted.
