Luzerne Co. investigating alleged error in workers’ comp. payment
A sheriff’s employee in Luzerne County, Pa., received workers’ compensation payments of more than $10,000 while working and receiving paychecks, the county controller said.
Luzerne County Controller Walter L. Griffith Jr. did not offer the name of the employee because the case involves personnel and health issues, but said the payments for workers’ compensation should have been halted in March, according to the Citizens Voice (Wilkes-Barre, Pa).
The newspaper, citing county records, said Deputy Sheriff Michelle Castner collected $991 in workers’ compensation for a week in April while also receiving a paycheck for working that week. Her annual salary is $29,550.
Griffiths told county officials the carrier and the workers’ compensation fund manager, Excalibur Insurance of Dunmore, Pa., are investigating his claims. Excalibur earns $48,000 a year.
