N.Y. man allegedly failed to collect workers’ comp. premium

A Queens, N.Y., contractor was charged with grand larceny and workers’ compensation fraud after allegedly defrauding the New York State Insurance Fund of more than $150,000 in uncollected premium.

Konstantinos Missirlakis, 33, owner of J&V General Contracting Corp., was arrested July 15 after a joint investigation involving NYSIF’s Division of Confidential Investigations and the New York State Insurance Department Frauds Bureau.

Missirlakis faces felony charges of falsifying business records and insurance fraud, the NYSIF reported.

Missirlakis allegedly under reported his company’s payroll to avoid paying correct premium to NYSIF for workers’ compensation insurance. Investigators estimated the amount of alleged fraud at more than $156,649.
