Va. trade group awards Agent of the Year, other annual honors

Christopher W. Archer, president and CEO of the C.W. Archer Insurance Agency, was named the Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia’s Insurance Agent of the Year.

A 42-year industry veteran, Archer was presented his award during the IIAV Annual Convention at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront. (View photos from the convention.) Archer has served as a member of various IIAV committees and has been an IIAV board member.

Marcia E. Barber, senior territory sales manager for ALFA Insurance, was named Insurance Company Person of the Year. She has been in the industry for 19 years. She has served on various IIAV committees, is a member of the Insurance Women of Richmond and the National Association of Insurance Women. In addition, she has served two years as president of the Insurance Women of Richmond and has been a delegate to NAIW state, regional and national meetings. She has also served on NAIW national committees and is a certified instructor for the NAIW.

R. David Priest, president of Virginia Commonwealth Corp., received the Past President’s Award. He began his career in the insurance business in 1969 and spent eight years working with Aetna C&S as a personal lines underwriter, manager and sales/underwriter representative.  He is a past president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Richmond and served as Virginia’s state national director for the past six years.
