A Mecklenburg County, N.C., insurance adjuster was arrested for allegedly altering four old claims policies to make payments to family members while employed by Nationwide Insurance.

Shaun Brown, 32, of Charlotte, is charged with four counts of embezzlement by an insurance agent, broker or administrator, according to the North Carolina Insurance Department.

Investigators allege that while Brown was employed as an insurance adjuster by Nationwide Insurance, he altered old claims policies on four different occasions from October 2009 to March, then issued claims checks on the altered policies totaling $14,625 to members of his family.

Brown was arrested on Oct. 14 and placed under a $6,000 secured bond.
